DAY SEVEN: THE CREATION OF REST & HOLY TIME
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Now the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He ceased from all His work that God had created and made.
THE CREATION OF MAN IN DETAIL
These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made earth and heavens,
and no shrub of the field was yet on the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprung up—for the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to work the ground.
But a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.
And the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living soul.
THE CREATION OF EDEN IN DETAIL
And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there He put the man whom He had formed.
And the LORD God caused to sprout from the ground every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food—and the tree of life in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
And a river went out from Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided and became four heads.
The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one that goes around all the land of Havilah, where there is gold.
And the gold of that land is good; there is bdellium and onyx stone.
And the name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one that goes around all the land of Cush.
And the name of the third river is Tigris; it goes east of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
And the LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and to keep it.
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “From every tree of the garden you may surely eat,
but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat from it, for in the day that you eat from it, you shall surely die.”
THE CREATION OF WOMAN IN DETAIL
And the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make for him a helper corresponding to him.”
And the LORD God formed from the ground every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living soul, that was its name.
And the man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for the man, no helper was found corresponding to him.
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in its place.
And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, He built into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
And the man said, “This now is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, for from man she was taken.”
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and cling to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and they were not ashamed.
